$2700 Item # Clock 1227-1
Height 80"
Width at base 21 1/2"
Depth at base 9 1/2"
Swedish Mora clock from c.1800. There is a date of 1847. Partially repainted
in possibly the 1940's. Wonderful original paint clock face. The works
are being cleaned.
The background for the flowers is a dark
grey. The body green is a blue green. The total effect of the paint and
the worn spots plus the amazing crown and the diminutive size is total
charm.
This clock has a clear
tick tock sound. There is no chime.
The face is original - on a wooden disc instead of metal!
The hand is shaped by hand and is a single steel hand, an indication of
great age. We would say that this clock is much older than the 1847 on
the body, possibly that is when the clock was repainted. On the face faintly
is written the date 1824 and some initials which look like FPG.
There is no chime on this
clock. It is a 20-30 hour work. It is wound by opening the clock door
and pulling on the string!
Underneath the green paint
is a blueish gray color.
