Our old brass photo frames can be purchased at our shop or online. These frames were made in the first half of the 1900's by little local frame factories. Each is a unique individual sized to fit whatever camera was current at the time. This means that your old odd sized family photos can find an appropriate home. Visit our shop and bring your old photos or order online and have fun! |
These unique frames have mostly bowed glass. This was done to protect sepia tone prints from condensation damage. Very attractive and of course does not effect the clarity of the photo. The backs of the frames are nearly as interesting as the fronts. Little loops were often attached so that frames could be hung on the wall. the back flaps turn so the frame works both ways. Sometimes, the backs were covered with silk ('silkbacks") or made of brass entirely (you guessed it--'brassbacks'). Some frame collectors are particularly fond of one or the other. |

| You
are always welcome to hunt through our boxes of restored old photo frames
at both show and shop. Look for your odd sizes, ovals and even special
frames for a string of photos from the photo machines that were found
in the 5 & 10 or at the railway station. And for your favorite group of children, choose the grandmother frames which are 2, 3 or more frames put together, each individual with its own bowed glass. Rare are modern day dimensions, particularly 4 x 6 and 5 x 7. Some of the frames come close enough if you can clip a photo a bit, occasionally we have some with these measurements. |
