They look to be in pristine condition. Very tightly woven with a wonderful pattern created by twisting black and white rags on either side of soft peach. Other colors...well a bit of everything imaginable but all subtley woven together. Yellow, red, blue, green and touches of purple! Sweet and romantic. Excellent condition with great fringe.

Colors of royal blue, rust red, bits of pale orange, cream... so beautiful I think I want to wear this rug! How did anyone have the patience to cut such find strips ---really long Swedish winters I suppose. It could go at the end of the bed or across your long plank table as well as doing its duty as a floor rug.

In a fabulous pattern, extremely talented weaving, great fringe. The early reds have run just a little bit onto the fringe and some of the lighter places which is ok as long as this run isn't on an unvarnished bare floor getting soaked every day. It is thick and soft and wonderful! It will make you happy getting out of bed every morning. Excellent condition.

Lots of early fabrics peeking out. Very handsome! This is a well say not heavy rug, but a thin one with an old fashioned feel to it. Suprising touches of peach lighten it up a bit. Swedish weavers were amazing, such a wonderful feel for color.

	We have bought these terrific rugs c.1900-40 in Sweden for many years and sold them in our antiques shop. They were made of many interesting fabrics and perhaps you will see patterns that you recognize from your childhood. Rugs were made for home use and made to last. They wash very well in the washing machine on a cold knit cycle with liquid laundry detergent or better yet, Simple Green which can be bought at hardware stores. Then just lay it flat to dry, but we find they do not need to be washed often, mostly just shook out.

	$225 Item# Rug Large 1009-4 Length 12'11" Width 24" Nice clean tightly woven Swedish rug c. 1920, bound fabric edges, clean and excellent condition. If you need a stairway runner, look at the rugs under 12' section at item number $185 Item# Rug Medium 1009-3. I would guess that these two rugs were at one time one long rug. The colors are actually all the same but the way they are put together creates a slightly different impression. A lot of the long rugs start out darker or more intense at one end and get lighter at the far end. This rug is the lighter in color of the two.

Rag rugs are being made in Sweden to this present day, but the majority of these rugs are pre-1950. You can see many late 1800's fabrics in the weave, old shirts and pajamas. Rag rugs were woven in the home for home use out of mainly cotton scraps that were ripped in long segments, sewn together and folded in half before weaving.

Length of rugs is anywhere from 2' to 30'. The 30 footer though was a wild exception. Expect maximum length to be about 16' which fits most living rooms. A few of the rugs are 25' or so which is great for stairway runners.Most are about 29" wide, the size of the home loom. Strips were laid out in the living area. Check out Carl Larsen prints for examples. Often, strips were sewn together to form one large rug. A few of the rugs which are younger (1940-50) are wider and more under the coffee table size. Little pieces for in front of the sink are survivors from long room sections.

Color and pattern are extraordinary in these rugs. You would think the Navajo's lived next door in many of the rug patterns. Also, traditional Yankee soft stripes. Lovely Scandinavian designs. Amazing workwomanship! Each rug a unique work of art.

Please do keep in mind that you are looking at vintage textiles. These rugs have been used and enjoyed and although they are in very good condition you may expect small quirks and defects. Since you can not handle these rugs but must purchase by photo, we try very hard to put up the best of our selection.

Rag rugs were made to last and these wear like iron. We recommend that you wash in your robust washing machine on a knit cycle in cold water with liquid detergent, then stretch out on the ground to dry.
