Here is some hardware that I painted black for a customer. It looks wonderful
but I will guess that it will not hold up of course and that eventually
the brass will show through.

Porcelain knobs
Ornate very eary Danish porcelain knobs.
Attached with a darkened brass or a darkened steel screw and with a brass
or pewter backing.
